Myra Roxanna Gould, 93 years of age, of Gables Lodge, Amherst
and formerly of Brookdale passed away on December 28th, 2014. She was
the daughter of the late William and Laura Gould.
Myra was a member of the Holy Family Parish. She loved to get
together with special family members for card games and always loved
her lobster sandwiches. She spent lots of hours in her flower garden
and with her special dog "Mickey." Myra worked for several
years at Sifto Salt until her retirement. Being the only girl in her
family, she spent a lot of her younger years playing hockey and
baseball. She is better remembered for her softball career. She was an
outstanding member of the Amherst Red Wings from 1945-1967. In 1945
she was instrumental in winning the Amherst Championship in a series
with Stella Marie where she had 6 hits and 4 runs. In 1976 Myra joined
the St. John Ambulance to stay involved in sports. In 1980 she went to
Ottawa to receive an award of the rank of Serving Sister in the Order
of St. John Ambulance for her volunteer efforts.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Myra
was predeceased by her brothers; Harold, Ivan, Layton, Delmar, Johnny,
and Vaughn. Myra has several nieces and nephews who were a special
part of her life.
Her remains are resting at Furlong-Jones Funeral Home in
Amherst, NS, where a visitation will take place on Tuesday from 7-9
p.m. A funeral service will be held at Holy Family Parish on
Wednesday, December 31st at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow. Burial
will take place in the St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery in the spring.
Donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the CRHCC or
Charity of donors choice.
