Peck, Charles Henry, 91, of Amherst, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre after a recent illness.

Born in Amherst, he was the son of the late Charles and Estella (Connors) Peck.  Charlie lived all of his life in Amherst until re-locating to Highcrest Nursing Home, Springhill in 2009.

A veteran of the 2nd World War, he served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.

Charlie started his working career in his father's grocery store on Duke St., in Amherst, becoming the store's owner after his father's death.  He then spent over 32 years as a salesman with Atlantic Wholesalers Ltd. (Amherst branch), retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the former North Nova Scotia Highlanders Memory Club, a 43 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #10 of Amherst and an active member of Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church until 2008.

He is survived by son Arnold, Amherst, daughter-in-law Edith of West Amherst, grandson David (Christa Dunsford), Mission BC, and extended family of nephews and nieces.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Pearl (Glenwright), son David, brothers Gordon, Harold, and Frederick, Sisters Gladys Smith, Lillian Legacy, Violet Follett, and Mary Creed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst (902-667-9777) where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 1 pm until 2:30 pm followed immediately at 2:30 with the funeral service in the chapel of the funeral home, Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.  Burial will take place in the Amherst Cemetery in the spring.

The Amherst Royal Canadian Legion will be offering a Legion Memorial Service on Tuesday at 1:30 pm.

Those wishing to make a donation in Charlie's memory may do so to the Arthritis Society, Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 "Raise the Roof Fund", Springhill Royal Canadian Legion, the Salvation Army, or the charity of your choice.
