
Isabell Mae (Crawford) Lewis, 88, of Fenwick, Cumberland County, NS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026 in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, attended by family.
Born in Hartford, NS, she was the daughter of the late Russell Crawford and Serena (Carter) Crawford.
She is survived by her daughter Karen/Kari (Jeff) Lively, Dartmouth; her son Calvert Sr. (Cari-Ann) Lewis, Fenwick; grandchildren Bethanie, Alyssa, Calvert Jr./C.J. (Michelle), Jesse (Nicole), and step-grandson David (Krystal); great grandchildren Zachery, Koryssa, Hunter, Jorja, Maela, Henry and Carlie.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband George, who also passed away on July 19, 19 years ago; her sister Madeline, brothers Lloyd, Curtis and Blaine.
Issy, as she was affectionately known to her nearest and dearest, had many passions in life, the foremost was family. She cherished every opportunity to gather and share hospitality with them all as well as her many, many friends.
Issy was known for her ready smile and vivacious personality. Her memory recall was phenomenal. She knew all the family stories in great detail, much to the delight of all who knew her.
She worked as a self employed child care provider from 1961 to 1972. She was later employed as a teacher's aid at APSEA, where she cared for the youngest of the deaf/blind students. She'd had ambitions of being a school teacher and she did indeed loving shape the lives of many children in her care.
Camping, music, concerts, festivals, dances, coffee with the girls, needle crafting, thrift shopping, and collecting "collectables" were among her favorite pastimes.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral Centre, Amherst, NS. A public graveside service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Wallace River on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 2 PM, Pastor Morris Mills officiating. All are invited to attend.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre who felt like family these past two months as Mom endured a surprising decline in her usual vigorous stamina.
