It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of Ormond Fulton Boss, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother on July 9, 2026, in the comfort of his Amherst home. Ormond passed at age 97 surrounded by his family. During his lifetime, he touched many lives with his humour, kindness, and generous spirit.
Ormond was born on December 18, 1928, son of Guy and Sarah Boss and was raised on a farm in Nappan with five brothers and three sisters. The majority of his working life was spent as a Research Technician at the Experimental Farm in Nappan.
He was a natural athlete and excelled at all sports. As a boy, Ormond learned to ski using a single downhill ski, way ahead of the snowboarding craze! He played league hockey as a youth and young adult. Golf came later, but it was a sport he greatly enjoyed playing with family and friends. He had bragging rights over his friends for scoring a hole-in-one!
Ormond was an elite marksman and the recipient of more than 25 trophies and medals, including the Governor General’s medal in target shooting. His friends would say "he could pick a flea off a fly at 100 yards!" His excellence in target shooting lent itself to hunting, and he relished many trips with his buddies over the years. Other sports of interest included badminton, bowling, and curling. Audrey and Ormond loved to travel, camp, and square dance.
When his father was no longer able to operate his Fenwick maple sugar woods, Ormond stepped up and rebuilt Boss’s Sugar Camp into a thriving, technology-based enterprise.
He met and married the love of his life in 1953, Audrey Blenkhorn. Ormond leaves behind a family who will miss him greatly, including his wife Audrey and children, David (Dominique), Sheila Boss (David Harvey), Darlene Lindh, Janet (George Mercer), and nSherry (Mike Brine), eight grandchildren, and brother Ronald (Linda). He is predeceased by brothers Derrald, Oral, Milton, and Cedric, sisters Phyllis, Muriel and Alma, and son-in-law Jim Lindh.
While his health was excellent for much of his life, his health status changed dramatically after contracting shingles at 94. The past three years were difficult for him, but he remained positive, realistic, and graciously accepted his reality. Dad and the family greatly appreciated the compassion, kindness, and care received from the VON Community Care, Palliative Care Teams and home caregivers. Many thanks to Dr. Janneke Gradstein for her unwavering support and excellent medical care for both Dad and Mom.
Dad always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. He was charming, funny, and the absolute best "Santa!" While our hearts are broken by his passing, we take comfort in the countless memories we have created with him over his lifetime.
Ormond wanted us to celebrate his life with shared stories of good times with family and friends alike. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 2 PM at Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777).
