It is with heavy hearts the family of Joan Gwendolyne Scopie, age 90, announce her passing on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at All Saints Hospital in Springhill.

Born in River Hebert, Joan was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Helen "Betty" (Barton) MacDonald.

Joan's love was baking, and she was always providing amazing foods for friends and family.  She was very active at the River Hebert Curling Club, curling, and heading up many a meal fundraiser.  She was a member of the Trinity United Church, River Hebert, where she was organist for many years.  She also was organist for the Joggins United Church, and played at countless weddings and funerals in the area.

She was the happiest when she had all her family around her, and was blessed to have so many of them near by.

Joan will be deeply missed by her daughters Betty Anne Hoeg (Ronald), River Hebert and Patti (Dennis) Boudreau Amherst; sons Larry (Eudora Ripley), Jim (Heather) both of River Hebert, Bruce (Bonnie), Edmonton, AB and Ricky, Amherst; grandchildren Ronda, Jaime, Megan, Joel, Craig, Haylee and Emily; great grandchildren Declan, Reese, Jacob, Aubrey, Carter, Ethan, Caleb, Maren and Elliott; brother Kenneth "Gerry" (Linda) and sister in law Nancy Michels.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Pete, daughter Tracy Lynn, and granddaughter Stacy Alison; daughter in law Susan Hoeg.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place on Friday, July 3, 2026 from 2 until the time of the funeral, which will begin at 3:30 PM, Rev. Ruth Gamble officiating.
