It is with heavy hearts the family of
Joan Gwendolyne Scopie, age 90, announce
her passing on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at All Saints Hospital in
Springhill.
Born in River Hebert, Joan was the
daughter of the late Kenneth and Helen "Betty"
(Barton) MacDonald.
Joan's love was baking, and she was
always providing amazing foods for friends and family. She
was very active at the River Hebert Curling Club, curling, and heading
up many a meal fundraiser. She was a member of the Trinity
United Church, River Hebert, where she was organist for many
years. She also was organist for the Joggins United Church,
and played at countless weddings and funerals in the area.
She was the happiest when she had all
her family around her, and was blessed to have so many of them near
by.
Joan will be deeply missed by her
daughters Betty Anne Hoeg (Ronald), River Hebert and Patti (Dennis)
Boudreau Amherst; sons Larry (Eudora Ripley), Jim (Heather) both of
River Hebert, Bruce (Bonnie), Edmonton, AB and Ricky, Amherst;
grandchildren Ronda, Jaime, Megan, Joel, Craig, Haylee and Emily;
great grandchildren Declan, Reese, Jacob, Aubrey, Carter, Ethan,
Caleb, Maren and Elliott; brother Kenneth "Gerry" (Linda)
and sister in law Nancy Michels.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased
by her husband Pete, daughter Tracy Lynn, and granddaughter Stacy
Alison; daughter in law Susan Hoeg.
Arrangements are under the care and
guidance of Jones Family Funeral Centre,
70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will
take place on Friday, July 3, 2026 from 2 until the time of the
funeral, which will begin at 3:30 PM, Rev. Ruth Gamble officiating.
Donation in memory of Joan may be given
to River Hebert-Joggins United Church, Cumberland Hospice, or a
charity of your choice.
Joan's family would like to extend
heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, Nurses, and staff of the Cumberland
Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst and All Saints Hospital,
Springhill for their care and dedication to their
mother.
