It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Carolyn Dickeson, 87 years, of Amherst on Monday, June 8, 2026, with her daughters by her side in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, NS.

Born in Tidnish Crossroads, she was a daughter of the late Stuart and Mildred (Tingley) MacKay.

Mary worked at Waldale manufacturing for over 30 years.  She was a charter member of the UCW, having been a member of both the Lorneville United Church and later Trinity St. Stephen's United Church.  She volunteered at the IODE thrift shop, and helped with anything and everything at the church.  She was an avid knitter, donating endless knitted items to hospitals, as well as heading up the Prayer Shawl ministry, giving out over 230 shawls to people in need over the years.  She also spent a lot of time rug hooking with the Northport rug hookers.  She loved the beach, clamming, or just sitting and listening to the waves.  Every Sunday supper with the family was a highlight to her week.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters Kim (Allan) MacKenzie, Norma (Ronnie) Hunter, both of Amherst; grandchildren Amy (Lawrence), Roger, Michael, Kennie (Hannah), Courtnay (Gaston), Jaret (Terrilynn) and MacKenze (Kenny); great grandchildren Zander, Jax, Blakelee; siblings Jack (Marie) MacKay, Phyllis (Junior) Munroe, Eldon (Anna) MacKay, and Fred (Vicki) MacKay; sister in law Carole (Lloyd) Gallant.

She was predeceased by her husband Walter; her daughter Carolyn Yorke; sister in law Karen MacKay and Carole MacKay.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St, Amherst, NS.  Her funeral service will be held at the Trinity St. Stephen United Church on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 2 pm, Rev. Susan Gamblin officiating.  Burial will take place in the Lorneville Cemetery at a later date.

If so desired, donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Trinity St. Stephens UCW.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to Mary’s family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca or through the Jones Family Funeral Centre Facebook Page.
