It is with profound sadness that we
announce the passing of Robert Alexander
Pickering, of Amherst, NS, on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Robert passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care
Centre.
Born in Amherst, NS, he was the son of
the late Francis and Catherine (Gould)
Pickering.
Robert found joy in the simple things
and shared that joy with everyone around him. He loved
country music, especially George Jones, which often played over the
radio in the car. He had a passion for NASCAR and loved
traveling throughout the United States with the love of his life
Carole, visiting different Race Tracks and collecting NASCAR
memorabilia that eventually filled several rooms.
You could always find him on Sundays watching a race with his best
friend Wayne Tibbetts.
His nephews, Shawn, Darren, Eddy, Doug,
Tim, Peter and Mark as well as nieces Robin, Becky and Leanne and all
their families were very special to him. Darren faithfully recorded
NASCAR races and wrestling matches so Robert wouldn't miss a single
moment of the events he enjoyed so much. Hockey was another of his
loves, especially UNB Reds and Moncton Wildcats. He
was especially proud to support Shawn when he played for the
Ramblers.
Robert had a deep love for animals,
something many saw when he was out walking Mr. Finn, the dog of his
good friend Christine.
Robert was deeply cared for by Carole
and Gary who made sure he was always comfortable. There love
and attention meant the world to him.
He was always willing to lend a hand to
family and friends alike, and that kindness is how many will remember
him.
Robert will be dearly missed by Carole
Wilson, Amherst, NS, her sons Gary Wilson (Crystal MacKenzie) and
Frank (Nicolle) Wilson, both of Amherst; brother Joe (Lynn) Pickering,
Ontario; sister in law Janet Pickering, Amherst, as well as his dear
cat Brucie.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by his brother Frank, and sisters Florence, Dorothy and
Harriette.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church
Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). In keeping with Robert's wishes,
cremation has taken place. A
graveside service will be held in the St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery
on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 at 11:00am with a reception to follow at
Jones Family Funeral Centre, all are welcome to attend.
