It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Ross Kohout, age 84, of Amherst, NS and formerly of Nappan, NS. Marilyn passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Gables Lodge.

Born in Joggins, NS, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Merrill and Marjorie (Copp) Johnston.

Marilyn attended Teachers College in Truro, receiving her BA and BEd at Mount Allison University at a later date.  Being One credit short of obtaining her Masters, she started her teaching career in Joggins in a one room school.  Further teaching in Quebec and Ontario, returning to NS to teach for 28 years.  She retired from River Hebert District High in 1994.

Marilyn and Bill were married on March 8, 1965, just celebrating 60 years of marriage.  They raised 3 boys, Odhinn "Kirby" (Roopy), Oakville, ON, Steven, Smithville, ON; Peter (Seema), Oakville, ON; grandchildren Tyr, Blaeden, Blaize, Ariel, Kaelie, Erika, Christian.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Joyce and Shirley and brother Buddy.

Marilyn's passion was teaching, second only to family.  Her students will fondly recall the Preposition song.

Marilyn enjoyed reading, knitting and baking; a lot of these done from the family cottage.  Marilyn also enjoyed her 10 years being a Mary K. Consultant being recognized for many achievements.

She was actively involved in the Nappan United Church, holding positions of Elder, Clerk of Session and for 23 years was President of the UCW.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.

Marilyn's family wishes to express their gratitude to Gables Home Care for their compassion and care.
