It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Oliver McKay, 90, of Springhill and formerly of Amherst, NS at the High Crest Nursing Home on Friday, April 12, 2024.   Born in Springhill, Ralph was a son of the late John & Jean (McCormick) McKay.

Ralph served his country proudly for 28 years. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces, North Novas, and RCR Airborne.   Ralph served in the Korean War from 1953-1954 and received medals: 3 NATO, 2 Korean Tours, Canadian Forces, and the Volunteer Medal and clasp.  He retired to Amherst in 1971 and became very active in the community, including the Masonic Lodge and Scouts Canada and during the Christmas season enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the mall.

He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Karen (David) Pickell, Kingston, ON; his baby sister Barbara (Mike) Gilbert; his brother, Alan (Anne);  as well as 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte; his daughter Dorothy; his son, David; his sister, Darlene Hotchkis, and his brothers, Gerald and David.

Arrangements are under the care and supervision of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777).  Honouring Ralph's wishes, cremation has taken place.  Interment to take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Ralph may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or Canadian Mental Health.
