Gerald Leon Cormier, age 77, passed away peacefully in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on February 25th, 2024 with his family by his side.

Gerry lived a full and active life and touched the lives of many people along the way.

In his youth, he lived within his beloved community of Amherst, NS. He was the youngest child of the late Nathan James and Mary Louise (LeBlanc) Cormier.

Left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Martha Elaine (MacInnis), daughter, Sheri of Toronto,ON/Amherst, son, Jim (Tara Gallant) and grandson, Ryan of Dartmouth, NS, as well as his sister, Eleanor Arseneau of Truro, NS.

Besides his parents, Gerry was predeceased by sisters, Jean, Deanna, Audrey; brothers, Raymond, Roy, Doug, Ronald, and Lawrence (Boobie).

After a successful career with the Bank of Nova Scotia, Gerry transitioned to executive leadership positions with Northern Telecom, SCL Technologies, Prime Tech, and Celestica, all in Amherst.

His steadfast dedication to his work and unwavering belief in his employees continued until his retirement. Our heart aches, but we hold dear the memories and lessons he shared with us.

Gerry was a person who left a positive impression on many people. His love for family, community, church and sports was unmatched. He was a lifelong member and active volunteer with St. Charles Roman Catholic Church and Holy Family Church. He served in numerous leadership roles for the Amherst area, including past president of United Way Amherst, YMCA board, and Cumberland Regional Economic Development Authority.

His passion for volunteering was most evident in his commitment to youth sports. During the winter months he served as a coach and manager with various Amherst Minor Hockey teams. For over 50 years, he relished his summer months where he coached, umpired, and served on the executive of Amherst Little League Baseball. For his tireless efforts and dedication to volunteering in his community, he was recognized with both the Lieutenant Governor's Provincial Volunteer of the Year Award and the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Amherst Rotary Club.

As Gerry's health declined, his family was grateful for the caring staff of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, All Saints Hospital, Gables Lodge, VON, and Dr. Kris Bienkowski.

Arrangements are in care of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Honoring Gerry's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024.  A funeral mass to celebrate Gerry’s life will be held at 11am on Satuday, March 2, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Parish, 63 Church Street, Amherst, Nova Scotia. All are welcome.
