It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Henry Maltby, age 91, of Amherst, on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Frederick and Pearl (Brown) Maltby.

In his 90 plus years, Walter's focus, after his family, was on the town of Amherst.  For over 7 decades, he has served Amherst's many local organizations and charities.  He has been recognized by the Town of Amherst and the Governor General for his endless giving.  When not volunteering, he enjoyed time at his cottage in Jackson's Point with his wife Bev and his family.  He was well known for his love of sports, especially hockey and baseball.

Walter will be missed by his son, Tony (Tania Guty) Maltby, Ottawa; Tony's first wife, who is thought of as a daughter, Tammy Casey, Port Howe; four grandchildren, Heather, Lara, Brandon, and Alex; great granddaughter Llewyn; sister Pearl (Lonnie) Melanson, Amherst, NS as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Beverly and brothers Roy and Edward.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777).  Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 1:30 PM until the time of his funeral at 3 PM at the First Baptist Church, Amherst, NS, Rev. Jeff White officiating.  Burial will take place beside his wife in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst in the spring.

For those who wish to do so, donations in Walter's memory can be made to Amherst Little League David Maltby Tournament, or a local charity of your choice.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca or through the Jones Family Funeral Centre Facebook Page.
