It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Freda May Cormier at the age of 92, she passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 10, 2023, at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, NS.
Born in Joggins, NS, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Catherine (Brine) Cormier. She is survived by her only daughter Nancy (Blair) of Durham NS, and son Peter (Lucille) of Truemanville, NS; daughters-in-law Laura Jewers of Toronto Ont, Della Lawless-Jewers of Halifax NS, several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
Predeceased by a son at birth, as well as son's Stephen, Paul (Debbie), and David; brothers Charlie, Alfie, Amos, Joseph, Robert, Basil, and Lester; sisters Agnes Legere and Helen Mills as well as a sister in infancy.
She worked 30 plus years at the Halifax Infirmary in various roles throughout those years, mostly as a nurse's aid and enjoyed her role there very much. She served on the Joggins CWL, as well as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, she was also a member of the River Hebert Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Joggins Branch, Auxiliary.
Of many things she enjoyed knitting, she loved spending time with cats especially Ollie (predeceased) whom she loved very much, singing with her bird, Birdie. She always had the biggest smile while dancing around the house.
Nancy and Blair would like to thank the CCA's and Nurses at Glen Haven Manor Whispering Tides for the care and compassion they showed to Mom during her short time with them while she fought her battle with Dementia. Thank You
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777). A funeral mass will be held at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Joggins, NS on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers in Freda's name to the SPCA of Pictou County.
