It is with extreme sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Peter Ross Smith, age 56, of Amherst. Peter passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023 in Cape Tormentine.
Born in Halifax, NS, he was a son of Victor Smith and the late Marie (Hubley) Smith.
Peter loved to travel and explore new places more than anything else. He loved driving his big motorhome and boondocking anywhere. He loved to be outside with his buddy Chinook, his best friend for 12+ years. He spent many years teaching outdoor skills to Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures with 4th Amherst and 1st Cumberland groups.
Peter loved his family and always put them 1st. Dalton and Cassie have been his greatest success. He loved to teach them new things so they would be independent. He would drop everything to care for his mom and Dad when they were in need. Peter was always with his wife as she battled cancer and won.
Peter was a nerd before it was cool to be a nerd. He got into computers at a very young age and had a long-varied career. He moved companies as Molly was transferred within the bank. He worked many federal government departments,15+ years with Medavie-BlueCross and most recently with Ultra Maritime. Peter had a passion for electronics as well. Not only could he program but he loved the technical side too. He was the go-to IT person for all who knew him.
Peter was a jack of all trades in his personal life. He could fix almost everything or would not give up until he figured out the problem.
Peter will be dearly missed by his wife of 29 years Molly Rose-Smith: his son Dalton Smith (Anna) of Moncton NB: daughter Cassie Smith of Amherst: father Victor Smith of Plumweseep NB: brothers Wade Stubbington (Warna) of Nine Mile River NS: Michael Smith (Karen) of Chapala Mexico: sister-in-laws Marion McMillian (Earl) of North River PEI: Marie Lee of Charlottetown PEI: Sheila Rose of Souris PEI: and brother-in law Matthew Rose (Rosie) of Stratford PEI and will be missed by numerous nieces nephews, and cousins.
Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his mother & father-in-law Edgar & Sharon Rose and brother-in-law Mark Rose.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church in Amherst.
