It is with sadness we announce the passing of Sir Robert "Bob" Vernon Chapman, age 99, of Amherst. Bob passed away at the High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, on Thursday, December 1, 2022.
Born in Dorchester, NB, he was a son of the late Cyril and Laura (Mealey) Chapman.
A veteran of World War II, Bob served over seas in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war he worked with the Canadian Air Forces. Upon his retirement from the forces in 1968 he continued to work, teaching Plumbing and Heating in vocational schools and later at the Dorchester Penitentiary, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Christ's Anglican Church, Amherst.
In 2021 he was awarded by France the rank of "Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour" for his role in the liberation of France during World War 2 which caries the prestigious title of "Sir".
He enjoyed being with his family and researching his family tree. He was well known for his wit and humour and enjoyed seeing people smile and be happy.
He will be dearly missed by 3 sons, Richard (Marilyn), Musquodoboit Harbour, NS, David (Betty), Truro, NS and Peter (Donna), Amherst, NS; 6 grandchildren, Ryan, Kristie-Lynn, Christopher, Joshua, Daniel and Diana; 11 great grandchildren, William, Robert, John, Tyler, Brayden, Tristan, Alexandrea, Ashton, Alliyah, Archer, and Oakley, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Theresa Boudreau; siblings, Douglas, Donald and Isabel.
His family wishes to extend a special thank you to Highcrest Nursing Home for the professional care and love given to him.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS where his funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 1 pm, Rev. Charlotte Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Dorchester Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, or a charity of the donor's choice.
