The death of Jean Veronica Dujay, 103, of New Glasgow and formerly of Amherst, Toronto, Joggins and Minudie occurred peacefully at home on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Born in Minudie she was the daughter of the late Katherine (MacBeth) and Clifford Burke.

Jean attended school in Minudie, married Victor and they began  their life together in Joggins. Jean was a homemaker who loved to sew, she made her children's clothing and knit for everyone.  After the closure of the Green Crow coal mine where Victor worked, like so many others at that time Jean and Victor left their home in Joggins in 1962 to secure employment elsewhere. They moved to Toronto (North York) and Jean worked for 20 years as the ladies' wear department supervisor for S.S. Kresge's at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre until her retirement and their move back home to Nova Scotia in 1982.

Jean will always be remembered for her abundance of love for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and most recently her great-great grandchildren, and in return she was much loved and adored by them all.

Jean will be sadly missed by daughter Alma Mills of Joggins and son Ross and daughter-in-law Mary Dujay of New Glasgow with whom she happily made her home for the last fifteen years. Also surviving are her grandchildren Gwen Archibald of Amherst, Lori (Tom) Fields Keeping of Dartmouth, Jimmy Melanson of Dartmouth, Sean Dujay of Gatineau QC and Shayna Dujay of Quebec City QC; great-grandchildren Michael (Marcie) Archibald, Brandon (Tammy) Fields, Alyssa (Mathew Craig) Melanson, Danielle Melanson and Evangeline Dujay; and great-great-grandchildren Meredith and Maverick Archibald and Jonah and Dakota Hebb, marking five generations of family who loved her dearly.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased in 2011 by her husband E. Victor Dujay, her brother James (Bill) MacBeth, her  daughter June Melanson, her son R. Stirling Dujay, three infant children, sons-in-law William (Bill) Mills and James (Chickie) Melanson.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in New Glasgow and formerly a member of St. Denis Church in Minudie, St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Joggins, St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Toronto and Holy Family Parish in Amherst.  She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies' Auxiliary, Branch 4 in Joggins and received her 60 year pin.

Arrangements are under the care and supervision of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where a visitation will take place from 11am until noon on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Jones Funeral Home, Amherst followed by a funeral mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Joggins at 1:00 p.m. Burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery,  Ragged Reef, immediately following.
