It is with deep sadness that we announce
the passing of Margaret Adelia Higgs,
102, of Amherst, NS. Margaret passed away peacefully on
Monday, June 27, 2022 at Gables Lodge.
Born in Nappan, Margaret was the oldest
daughter of the late Douglas and Josephine (Purdy) Black. Between caring for her own
children, Margaret was a trusted second mom to many of the little ones
of family and friends. Throughout the years, her love of gardening,
bird watching, camping, bowling, puzzles, short stories, and cooking
gave her great joy. She
always ensured that no one ever left "Auntie
Marg’s" house hungry and she was very happy in her home
on Franklyn Street for 60 years. Margaret was involved in the local
guiding movement as a Badge Secretary and Cookie Convener and often
helped with events at her childhood Nappan United Church and First
Baptist Church in Amherst with her husband.
Margaret will be dearly missed by her
sons Glenford of Airdrie, AB, Charles (Joan) of Lower Sackville, NS,
daughter Joella (Mike) of Pugwash, NS; her grandchildren, Michael
(Beverly), Troy, and Deborah; and four great grandchildren. She is
survived by sisters, Esther Jones of Fredericton, NB, and Elizabeth
Stewart of Oxford, NS as well as her many special nieces and
nephews.
Besides her parents,
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Howard; her brothers, Charles,
Lawrence, Donald, and Paul; her sisters, Inez Chapman, Elsie Forshner,
and Ida Ward and daughter in law Gloria Jean.
A special thank you to the staff at
Gables Lodge for taking care of Margaret in her final
years.
