It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Margaret MacKenzie (née Clarke) on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the age of 85. Her passing was sudden and unexpected.

She was born to Frederick and Dora Clarke (nee Gallant) on September 20th, 1936 in Amherst, NS.  She is predeceased by her parents as well as siblings: Donald, Robert, Daniel, Marjorie, Gary and Lorraine.

As well as surviving siblings: Gordie, Shermie, Barb, Gail, Donna and David, she will always be remembered and loved by her children, Donald, Cindy (John), Brian (Mai) and Kathie (Danny).  Doreen leaves behind her grandchildren, Andre (Marie), Lorie (Jon), Mackenzie (Samantha), Amy, Nick (Tiffany), as well as her great grandchildren, Kaylie, Julya and George and many other relatives.

Early on Doreen worked at Moir’s Chocolate in Halifax, NS. During this time she met our father, Donald MacKenzie. They attended many dances together before getting married. She worked as a kitchen helper at many hospitals in Ocean View Manor in Eastern Passage, NS, Portage La Prairie, MB, and Trenton, ON.

Doreen spent time abroad in France while our father was stationed there. Upon returning to Canada she worked in Sergeant’s mess halls in Shearwater, NS and Edmonton, AB. She achieved her Grade 12 education and went on to accomplish in her profession, her cook’s status at NSIT in Halifax. She studied and was certified in American Sign Language. Doreen completed her career working for the Interprovincial School for the Deaf in Amherst, NS, where she retired from.

Our Mom had various passions including her family, gardening and her flowers, bowling, curling, her love of Mustang cars, and time spent at the beach in Linden.  She enjoyed all of the time spent in her home, the visits to her brother Shermie’s house where they laughed and enjoyed nature together, and her passion for puzzles, crosswords and reading. She was meticulous in her ways and had a spunky outlook on life; her last Christmas was spent loving every moment with family near and far.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service and a private family burial that will follow at a later date.

Donations in memory of Doreen may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation or a charity of choice.
