It is with sadness we announce the
passing of David Ervin Smith, age 74, of
Sackville, NB, formerly of Springhill Junction, NS. David
passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Sackville Memorial
Hospital.
Born in Amherst NS, he was raised in the
Springhill Junction, NS by the late Currie and Mabel (MacAloney)
Smith.
He will be dearly missed by his loving
wife Eunice Cecilia (Foster) Smith, Sackville, NB; only daughter Cindy
Ruth (Kent) Crossman, Sackville, NB; grandson and granddaughter, Ethan
and Anna Crossman both of Sackville NB and Cindy's family pet, Maggie;
brothers Merlin (Marilyn) Smith, Truro, NS and Terry (Kerry) Smith ,
Moncton NB; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother Roger
Smith and sister Carolyn Smith.
David was employed with Atlantic
Wholesalers, Amherst NS for 17 years and moved to Bedford, NS for 20
years working with Seaway Distributors finally moving to Sackville, NB
to retire in 2011.
David was a man of few words who enjoyed
hunting at the camp in Folly Lake, NS and summers at the cottage at
Jackson’s Point, NS as well as four wheeling, snowmobiling
and spending much time traveling to follow his
grandchildren’s sporting events. It was a very rare
occurrence if he missed a hockey, basketball, rugby or soccer game in
which his grandchildren were on the roster. He adored his 2
grandchildren and was very proud of both of them.
He was not much for crowds of people but
cared deeply for his family. He was very generous to all that he came
in contact with and was known best for making his famous homemade deep
fried french fries.
David was a hard worker. He was early to
rise and get his work done even during his retirement years. He
enjoyed lawn mowing; snow blowing; cutting wood and polishing his
vehicles, especially his truck. Whatever David was doing,
you could find Eunice by his side.
