It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother Geraldine "Gerrie" Elizabeth Sperry, age 76, of Pictou, NS, formerly of Amherst, NS. Gerrie passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary with family by her side on Tuesday April 27, 2021.
Born in Amherst, NS she was a daughter for the late Wallace and Annie (Ellis) Goodwin.
Her last place of employment was at the Highland View Regional Hospital in Amherst NS where she worked in admitting and switchboard.
Being kind and thinking of others is what mom was known for throughout the community. After retiring due to illness, she spent countless hours devoting her time to volunteering for organizations such as The Canadian Red Cross, The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign, The Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign, The Canadian Cancer Society, as well as 4H.
She will be dearly missed by her children Peggy, Trudy (Edward), Pictou, NS, Linda (John), Dartmouth, NS and Bob (Nancy), Amherst NS; grandchildren Elizabeth, Wally, Amy, Buddy, Korey, Kolin, Kraig, Nicola, Josh and Kate; great grandchildren Eli, Charlotte, Zoe, Cassandra, Dawson, Jayrese, Jaxon, Jasiah, and Dakotah; numerous nieces and nephews whom mom loved dearly; sisters Melinda Goodwin, Amherst, NS, Susan McNally (Mike), Amherst, NS, Jennifer Goodwin (Steve) of Amherst, NS; brothers, David Goodwin (Anne), Halifax, NS, Tony Goodwin (Ruthanne), Amherst, NS and sister in law Jennifer of Lower Sackville, NS.
She was predeceased by her brother Wallace "Buzzy" and infant siblings Roger and Marjorie.
She will be fondly missed by her two kitties (kids) Knobby and Tipsey.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst NS (902-667-8777). A funeral service celebrating Gerrie's life, followed by a reception will be held at the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 2 pm. Committal will take place in the Amherst Cemetery. Preregistration is required, please call or e-mail the funeral home at [email protected] to do so. Masks are required and all are asked to adhere to Covid-19 regulations. The funeral will be Live-streamed on Gerrie's Obituary.
