It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joyce May (Jackson) Carscadden on January 9, 2021, one day before her 73rd birthday, with her family by her side, following a brief battle with cancer.  Born in East Leicester, she was the daughter of the late Avery & Olive (Carter) Jackson.

Joyce went back to school in 1978 and graduated with her stenography diploma. She was secretary to the sheriff of Cumberland with the attorney general department, which became the department of justice. She was a justice officer and commissioner of oaths; she retired in 2005.

Joyce was a member of the Amherst United Church. Joyce and John enjoyed numerous trips out west and to Ontario visiting family along the way. The trips were always an adventure and often resulted in a few dents from hitting a deer.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting gifts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and Phase 10 with her family. She was often the winner of these games and took great joy in winning all games.  She also enjoyed helping John with his woodworking, together they made furniture and other items for themselves and their families.

Joyce was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed socializing with members of her community and many family get togethers.  She also billeted hockey players for the Amherst Ramblers for a number of years, they loved her hospitality and especially her cooking.

Joyce will be lovingly missed by her six children Allan (Tracey), Norma (Brent), Carolyn (Wayne), Jimmy (Diane), Julie (Jim) and Tim (Renee); thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four step children, Janet, Jeffery, Matthew and Paula, and several step grandchildren.

She is also survived by sisters, Heather (Raymond), Sylvia (Rodger), Joan, Donna (Joe), Lorna (Rick), Eleanor (Kerry); brother, Bubs (Linda) and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband John in 2006 and sisters, Shirley, Faye, Ruth.

We would like to express our gratitude to the VON and palliative care nursing for the kindness they showed during Joyce's brief illness.

Arrangements are under the care and supervision of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) from where a  funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 3 pm.  Please call to pre-register.  Kindly respect all social distancing protocols and wear your mask.  Interment for Joyce will take place in the Mansfield Cemetery at a later date.
