We announce with heavy hearts, that Eleanor Mawdsley, 94, of Lower Cove, NS, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2020, with her children by her side.

Eleanor, the youngest of her family was predeceased by her parents Jude and May Cormier (nee Comeau) sisters Sarah, Beatrice, Mazzie, Eileen, Cecilia, Marion, Josephine, and her brother Jude (Mannie).  She, sadly, also survived her husband Cyril Mawdsley and her granddaughter Dawn Dempsey (nee Mawdsley).

Eleanor, the matriarch of her family, lived her life without filters or apologies and was a stubborn and independent force of nature. Eleanor had a sharp mind, was quick-witted, and always spoke her mind regardless of who you were, or your station in life.

Eleanor was also a gifted baker and quilter who truly never appreciated her talents.  When you visited Eleanor, you ate, drank cups of tea, laughed, and listened to country music, at high volume, while she regaled you with stories of her escapades as a career hostess/waitress at the Fort Cumberland, the Lady Amherst and the Wandlyn.  All who had the privilege of meeting Eleanor during her long life both respected, and loved her.

Those left behind to mourn this legend are her children Cynthia Landry (Gary), Layton Mawdsley (Marion) and Stephen Mawdsley (Cheryl).  She is also survived by her grandchildren Christie-Ann, Donna, Alisha, April, Stephanie and Paul, seven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.  Also grieving, and of special mention, are her former daughter in-law Brenda and her dear friends Gloria, Sally and Jim; Eleanor cherished her time with you, and spoke of you highly.

A special thank you to Dr Ferguson, Dr Bienkowski and Dr. Short as well as the Emergency and Palliative care nurses of Cumberland Regional Hospital.  Your care and kindness were greatly appreciated during such a difficult time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Family Funeral Centre 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where an Afternoon of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, with special words shared at 3:00 pm.  These words will be Live Streamed at 4:30 pm and can be viewed by visiting Eleanor's obituary on www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca.  Please wear a mask and respect social distancing while visiting.

Those wishing to make a donation in Eleanor's memory may do so to the charity of your choice.
