It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Thelma "Dukie" Elexeia Burbine, age 95, of River Hebert, NS.  Thelma passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre with family by her side.

Born in Chignecto, NS she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Edith (Berry) Smith.

Dukie had many jobs until she married and found her most enjoyable job, caring for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved to play games and was very competitive at cards, marble game and bingo.  She loved to read, knit, and quilt.  A wonderful homemaker, she loved having everyone gather around for special occasions, a meal, or just dropping by.

She will be sadly missed by 3 daughters, Carol (Mike) Laszchak, Riverview, NB, Bonnie (Jerry) Burke, River Hebert, NS, Edith Burbine, River Hebert, NS; 2 sons, John (Sylvia), Riverview, NB and Bruce (Marion), Southampton, NS; 6 grandchildren, Melinda, Bobbi-Jo, Gerald, Justin, Jaret and Nathan; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Fern (Ron) Burbine, River Hebert, NS and Elaine Smith, Amherst, NS; close family connections, Jason, Judy, Sonny, Shirley as well as Joan and Carvel Burke; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband John; sisters Blanche, Donnie, Gladys, Alvina and Clara; and brother Lloyd Jr.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 1 pm until 2 pm, followed immediately at 2 pm by her funeral service, Pastor Scott Balser officiating.  Masks are mandatory.  Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert, NS.  Those who wish, may view the service through live-streaming by visiting Dukie's memorial page on the funeral home website.
