It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marion Barbara (Vickery) Johnston, 85, of River Hebert at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on September 6, 2020.

Born on June 24, 1935 in Amherst, Marion was the daughter of the late Graydon and Lena (Hurley) Vickery of Maccan.

Marion was a long time employee of Sifto Salt, Nappan.  In 1992, Marion and her son, Paul, travelled to New York City where they were presented with the Chairman’s Award from Sifto’s parent company North American Salt Company.

Marion was always on the go and loved to travel, enjoying trips to visit her sister, Sharon, in British Columbia, and her almost yearly trips to visit with her sister, Shirley, in Bermuda.

In her younger years, Marion was a CGIT leader, a member of the UCW, and was a past president of the River Hebert Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Marion is survived by her daughter,  Karen (Gary) Brown of Brookdale, Nova Scotia;  grandchildren Tyler (Jay Gaspar) Johnston, Calgary, Alberta; Lindsay (Greg McEachern) Johnston, Red Deer, Alberta; and Danielle Brown, Toronto, Ontario; great-grandchildren Reese, Addisyn and Nixon; sister Shirley (David) Vallis, Somerset, Bermuda; nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Marion was predeceased by her husband Reginald (Bud); son Paul; brother George (Bud); sisters June Smith and Sharon Gray.

The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Gradstein and her associates and to the staff of the Medical B Unit at CRHCC for their compassionate care.  Special thanks to Clarence Clarke, for providing a safe home and enabling Marion to continue being active and on the go, for the hospital visits, and especially for being there at the end.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777).  Cremation has taken place and due to COVID travel restrictions, there will be no visitation or service.  A family graveside service will be held at 11 am on September 24.  Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert.  Donations in Marion’s name can be made to the charity of your choice.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Marion's online memorial at www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca or through the Jones Family Funeral Centre Facebook Page.
