John "Jack" W. Sweeney

It is with sadness we announce the passing of John "Jack" William Sweeney, age 77, of West Amherst, formerly of Springhill, NS.  Jack passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

Born in Springhill, NS, he was a son of the late John and Joan (Littler) Sweeney.  Following his father's passing during World War II, he was raised by his step-father, the late Maurice Wilson.

Jack moved to Ontario very young, and met his wife of 54 years Donna.  They returned to Amherst in 1991.  Jack loved life in Ontario, and they often returned for a visit with family and friends.  He loved being outdoors, spending time fishing or hunting.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Donna (Carter) Sweeney, West Amherst, NS; his children, John (Leona Fournier), Midland, ON, Dawn Sweeney (Brian Weeks), Mississauga, ON, and Daniel (Debbie Daly), Beaverton, ON; 8 grandchildren; Troy, Ashley, Natasha, Bethany, Megan, Brittany, John and Amber; 4 great grandchildren; Joanne Rivers, Mississauga, ON; Sandra, Billy, Elizabeth, Darlene, Tommy, and Grant.

He was predeceased by his daughter Tina Lee Sweeney, as well as siblings, Susan, Robert, David and Tyler. 

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS, where visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 1 pm until 2 pm, followed immediately at 2 pm with his funeral service.  Cremation will take place following the funeral service, and internment will be in the Christ Church Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
