Jean Elizabeth Sophia Burnham
Jean Elizabeth Sophia Burnham, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, with her family by her side. She was 91 years old.
Jean was born in Saint John, NB and moved to Amherst shortly after marrying Philip, where she would spend most of her life. Throughout her life, she gave much of her time back to the community. She spent many years with the Girl Guide Association where she became District Commissioner as well as many other aspects of the organization.
Jean was also involved with the Toast Mistress Association where she became an International Ambassador and performed many presentations and public speaking engagements for some very large crowds. She was President of the Ladies Golf Club Association, the Curling Club Association, was an active member of the ACW and a Sunday School teacher, just to mention a few of her many interests.
Jean was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her friends and family. She is survived by two children, Jean (Paul) Blenkhorn, Pictou Co, NS, and John (Sue-Ellen) Burnham, Rothesay, NB; four granddaughters, one grandson, and five great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Philip, an infant son, Richard, and a younger brother, Jimmie.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of The Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) from where a time of visitation will be held 6-8 pm on Friday, May 31, 2019. A funeral service will take place at Christ Church, Amherst, on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 2 pm. Interment will take place in the Christ Church Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
